The low interest rate environment has created numerous challenges for Canadian pension plans and their members approaching retirement. It has put pressure on DB funding ratios and it has made it more difficult for members in DC and Group RRSP plans to obtain an adequate level of return from traditional income mandates. There is now a compelling argument to be “unconstrained” and take the handcuffs off your manager to look beyond traditional fixed income investments in retirement portfolios. In our presentation we will discuss how to generate income from bonds in a low rate environment, how to achieve the returns from credit allocations, using a global approach to finding unique investment opportunities in fixed income and other innovative strategies for your DB or DC plan.
