Pension, Benefits and the Law: 2021 Update on Legislative Developments, Court Decisions and Legal Trends that Matter

This session will address legislative and regulatory initiatives plus important court decisions that are contributing to material trends for both pension plans and benefit plans, including:

  • defined benefit and target benefit plans liberated from solvency funding rules,
  • adapting workplace pension and benefit plans  to government initiatives around pandemic relief
  • CPP reform and other changes,
  • Supreme Court of Canada’s Fraser decision’s impact in shining light on how pension and benefit plans can so easily and unintentionally embody discriminatory features, and what we need to do about it.
