Pension plans represent a significant cost to employers, but how do they work, why have those costs been increasing, and how have employers been reacting?

This session will provide answers to these questions, and more, by guiding you through the following topics:

  • A historical perspective
  • The differences between defined benefit and defined contribution plans, how each works
  • The roles of the regulators
  • Current issues

Greg Petretta
Associate, Mercer

Greg is an Associate in Mercer’s Wealth line of business in Vancouver, and joined the team in 2013.
He works in the pension and investment spaces providing technical and consulting support to a variety of organizations. In the pension space, he is involved in plan valuations (funding and accounting under various standards) and plan administration. In the investment space, he works on plan governance reviews and plan investment monitoring. Greg holds a Bachelors of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, an ASA designation from the Society of Actuaries, and an ACIA designation from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He is currently working towards his FSA/FCIA designations.
