Philipp is a partner in the Pensions, Benefits and Executive Compensation Group at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in Toronto and Ottawa and has practiced in pensions, employee benefits and executive compensation for 12 years.
Philipp’s practice covers all aspects of pensions, employee benefits and executive compensation law, including plan administration, governance, investment, design and taxation. He also frequently advises on the pensions, employee benefits and executive compensation aspects of corporate transactions.
Philipp’s clients include public and private sector plan sponsors and administrators and a wide range of financial institutions and companies.

Prior to joining Blakes, Philipp spent several years at a magic circle firm in Germany and the U.K., where he advised multinational employers on a variety of pension, benefits and employment matters.

Philipp is qualified to practice in Canada, the UK and Germany.

 


    

Michael Hale

Mike's practice covers all aspects of pensions, benefits and executive compensation law, including plan administration, investment, taxation, governance and design. He advises pension funds and other institutional investors on fund investments, direct investments and co-investments.
In 2023, Mike completed a secondment within the fund management group of a leading power generation company which is responsible for the investment of a large pension fund. He advised the private markets, public markets, and real estate investment teams on investment structures, cross-border taxation, and the pension regulatory issues that arise in connection with investments.
Mike obtained a combined JD/HBA degree from Western University's Faculty of Law and the Richard Ivey School of Business. During law school and business school, he was president of the Ivey Law Club and an active member of the Western Investment Club.
