SESSION ONE  - Pension Update presented by Ryan McMurray, Pension and Group Retirement Specialist, Selectpath Benefits & Financial

In this session, our expert will discuss the Plan Member Survey results, highlighting areas most members need help understanding. He will also explain the new CAP Guidelines that define education, explore how to shift focus to goals rather than market cycles and discuss the reasons behind this approach.


SPOTLIGHT - Overview of Recent Developments in Employment Law

Joshua will present an overview of recent developments in employment law, focusing on updates to employment contracts and termination provisions. The session will also offer practical tips for employers on minimizing liability during the hiring and termination of employees.

SESSION TWO  -  Drug Trends Uncovered: Navigating Canada’s Evolving Health Landscape,  presented by Andrea Staruch, Director, Drug Plan Management, GreenShield Canada

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, understanding drug utilization trends is crucial for managing benefits and ensuring long term plan sustainability. This session will delve into key insights in chronic diseases, specialty drugs, and the growing uptake of biosimilars, highlighting their implications on drug plan costs across Canada.

The discussion will also address the current status of National Pharmacare in Canada and examine trends related to the expanding prescribing roles of pharmacists across the country.

In this session, conference attendees will learn about:

  • Recent drug trends and how they are impacting drug plans
  • The current state of national pharmacare discussions in Canada
  • The expanded scope of pharmacist prescribing and the corresponding trends being seen across Canadian provinces

Ryan McMurray

Pension & Group Retirement Advisor, Selectpath

Ryan began his career as a personal financial planner where he became focused on investment management and retirement planning. He currently holds multiple Financial Planning designations.

Ryan became a leader in portfolio construction and analysis and moved into an investment wholesaler position serving Southwestern Ontario. During his time in wholesaling, he consulted with Canada Life’s Investment Management Review team during their fund selection process and was part of the team to build their inside sales.

Ryan moved back into an advisor role with Selectpath in 2021, specializing exclusively in Group Retirement and Pensions. Ryan is a member of several GRS industry committees.

   
 
Andrea Staruch

Director of Drug Plan Management, GreenShield

Andrea Staruch is a Director of Drug Plan Management at GreenShield. Since joining the organization in 2015, she has been involved with many elements of the drug plan experience, including prior authorization, formulary management, and the production and delivery of various informational presentations and resources.

In her current role she works to conceptualize and implement new initiatives and technologies to optimize experiences with drug plan management strategies.

Andrea received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Windsor, and later her Bachelor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Waterloo.

She has prior experience in a number of clinical settings, but actively practices as a community pharmacist today. She is also in the process of completing her Master of Health Evaluation from the University of Waterloo.

Joshua Lerner is an associate at Lerners LLP, practising in both the Toronto and London offices.

He has a diverse litigation practice focusing on commercial disputes, employment law, and health law.

Joshua provides strategic advice to individual and corporate clients on a range of matters, including contract disputes, negligence claims, professional liability, human rights issues, and various civil and regulatory challenges.
