The Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF) administers the defined benefit pension plan for approximately 40,000 active, former, and retired teachers in the Manitoba public school system.

We are currently seeking a professional, dedicated, analytical and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Pension Analyst. The Pension Analyst will report to the Director, Actuarial Services and provide support in various areas such as plan benefit and tax calculations, correspondence and review of member data.


  • Prepare and review reciprocal transfer calculations, correspondence and tax information and perform related updates to member records.
  • Prepare and review service purchase calculations and correspondence.
  • Prepare and review other benefit calculations as required, including pension estimates, death benefits, final pensions, unique optional form calculations, payouts and relationship breakdowns.
  • Prepare and review calculations and reporting of pension adjustments (PAs), past service pension adjustments (PSPAs), and pension adjustment reversals (PARs).
  • Provide business user technical support in the testing, implementation and ongoing quality control of changes to the pension administration system and internal tools created in Excel using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
  • Assist with the review and analysis of member service, salary and contribution data (including additional voluntary contributions) to ensure that complete and accurate data is used to perform benefit calculations.
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably with a focus on business, accounting, economics, actuarial science, mathematics or a related technical field, and a minimum of five years of experience in pension plan administration or a related role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Understanding of basic actuarial principles and knowledge of pension and tax legislation would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Working knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) would be an asset.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to perform within a team environment with limited supervision
