Bilsland Griffith Benefit Administrators is a third party pension and benefit plan administrator based in Burnaby, BC and working exclusively with collectively bargained  and negotiated cost plans.  Founded in 2010, we have grown to be a recognized leader in pension and benefits administration.   

Our clients, the trustees of health and welfare trusts, defined benefit and defined contribution plans, value our breadth of experience and attention to detail and service in administering their plans.

Our team is made up of consultants, data analysts, pension and benefit administrators, accountants and support staff, focussed on making sure that plan members understand and receive the benefits that have been negotiated on their behalf.

Senior Plan Administration Consultant and Team Lead

This is a leadership position, where the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall administration of various multi-employer pension and benefit plans.  As well, they will lead a team of administrators ensuring accurate data and calculations are delivered and that all regulatory requirements are satisfied.  They will also be the primary contact for at least one large client. 

Responsibilities will include:

Work closely with Trustees and other professional advisors including actuaries, lawyers and investment consultants to ensure plans are run efficiently and that benefits are delivered to plan members as intended.
Provide leadership to plan administrators for the plans and identify training needs, resourcing needs, mentorship and performance management.
Collaborate with other team leads and the business owners to develop our people and to identify opportunities for improvement.
Cultivate relationships within the pension industry to support business development.

Plan Administration

Key contact for trustees, actuaries, regulator and other advisors.
Coordinate trustee meeting agendas and materials, attend meetings and record minutes.
Prepare annual filings.
Draft member communication from time to time.
Assist with plan member calls as needed.
Review and drafting member correspondence.

Member Services

Oversee the pension administrators’ calculation of benefit entitlements and the preparation of option packages on retirement, termination, death and marriage breakdown.
Conduct peer review of retirement, termination and death calculations.
Work with data and systems team to implement system changes as required in order to administer plans and oversee maintenance of records.
Oversee the monthly process for updating member eligibility for benefit coverage and related reporting to carriers and actuaries.
Oversee the year-end updating of plan records, including the reconciliation of membership, contributions and hours and providing this information to the actuary as required.
Complete government forms for filing with pension regulators.
Oversee updates for retirement, termination and death templates.

Work Experience

Post-secondary education or formal training in pension and benefits administration, mathematics and or analytics.
At least ten years of previous pension administration and customer service experience, preferably within a finance, pension, and/or analytics work environment.

3 + years supervising and mentoring a team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of pension legislation including Family Law Act (FLA) and Pension Benefits Standards Act.
  • Advanced math and analytical skills.
  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion. 
  • Advanced level skills using a variety of computerized software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), related databases and Internet.
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and developing junior analysts and administrators.

 

The salary range for the successful candidate is $65,000- $80,000 and includes a generous bonus and competitive benefits package.  Bilsland Griffith offers continuous growth, senior management opportunities and supports employees personal and professional development.
