Healthcare Benefit Trust (HBT) is a not-for-profit health and welfare trust that provides group health and welfare benefits on behalf of participating employers for nearly 100,000 eligible employees, their eligible dependents and beneficiaries employed in health care, social services and other sectors in the British Columbia public service. With a vision to provide services and benefits to keep people healthy and working, HBT is one of Canada’s most experienced and progressive group benefit providers, and it continues to evolve and innovate in order to best meet the needs of members.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President & Chief Executive Officer is responsible for leading the overall business and financial operations of Healthcare Benefit Trust. Building on the Trust’s corporate mission, the position is a highly collaborative one, working in partnership with BC’s health care sector as well as other clients in the public and not-for-profit sectors to create and administer effective employee benefit plans that promote optimal health and safety for employees. The CEO provides strategic direction and leadership to staff and reports to the Board regarding organizational performance in meeting Board objectives, priorities and all of the obligations of the Trust Agreement.

An ability to be flexible, nimble, and responsive, and you can champion, navigate and effectively implement change and new approaches.
Very strong relationship and communication skills that showcase an ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders, and inspire a progressive, supportive and customer-centric approach and culture.
Strong financial and administrative acumen, with an ability to recognize the long-term financial impacts in decision making.
Proven contract management and negotiation skills.
A demonstrated ability to support the vision of a diverse Board of Trustees, effectively guiding a Board in a very complex environment, while respecting their roles, responsibilities and fiduciary obligations.
A commitment to serving the public.
Integrity as a core value and an ability to build trust with all partners and constituents.

Requirements:

Masters of Business Administration or equivalent degree.
Extensive experience in planning and managing the
operations of a diverse and complex organization,
ideally with experience in overseeing group insurance
underwriting, claims administration and/or finance
functions, combined with technical consulting knowledge
and work experience in the group benefits business.
