Overview

The Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF) administers the defined benefit pension plan for approximately 40,000 active, former, and retired teachers in the Manitoba public school system.

We are currently seeking a bilingual, professional, dedicated and service-oriented individual to fill the position of Member Services Specialist, which is part of the Member Services team responsible for the day-to-day administration of the pension plan. The Member Services Specialist is responsible for the delivery of information to plan members in an understandable and comprehensive manner through appointments, seminars and verbal and written communications. The Member Services Specialist is also tasked with the accurate and timely processing of member transactions such as retirement, termination, death, purchase of service and reciprocal transfers.   

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, timely and complete information to members through appointments and verbal and written communications
  • Conduct pre-retirement seminars for members throughout Manitoba
  • Prepare and ensure the delivery of accurate and complete individual member benefit calculations within established service standards
  • Verify the work of other staff members to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with the efficient processing of documentation required to pay benefits
  • Recommend and assist with modifications to information technology systems, and department processes and procedures, to improve the efficient delivery of plan benefits
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned 
Requirements:

  • Fluency in both English and French is required
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably with a focus on business, actuarial science or mathematics and a minimum of two years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC) designation
  • Understanding of basic actuarial principles and knowledge of pension and tax legislation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality of work and accountability
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and achieve results in a busy work environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, including Word and Excel
