Our Employee Benefits Department is seeking a collaborative and innovative leader with extensive strategic and hands-on experience with disability case management, employee benefit plan administration, and governance.

The Director, Claims Services, contributes to the strategic direction, governance, and financial management of the ten Employee Benefit Plan Trusts. Reporting to the Vice President, Employee Benefits, the Director is responsible for the effective management and investment of over $600M in Trust assets. The Director oversees daily operations of the Claims Services team and the Administration Services team to ensure the delivery of world class customer service to stakeholders including 44,000 active plan members and their families, and 15,000 retirees across 74 health care employers, unions, governing committees and the Employee Benefit Plans Board of Trustees.

In consultation with actuaries, legal counsel, investment consultants, fund managers, and benefit consultants, the Director, Claims Services, researches, analyzes, prepares, and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees on all matters relating to the financial management, plan design, and administration of the Trusts.

The Director serves as an ambassador for the Employee Benefit Plans through planning and presenting education events for customers, partners, unions, committees, the Board of Trustees and other key stakeholders in support of better care, better health, better value and better teams in Saskatchewan’s healthcare system.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience within the insurance industry in the areas of underwriting, valuations, claims administration, or claims adjudication;
  • Demonstrated success in designing and managing benefit programs in large, complex, multi-union, public sector organizations;
  • Proven leadership in delivering services to customers and partners including disability case management, payroll, administration, data analysis, and system support;
  • Experience in the administration of employee benefit plans ensuring compliance with rules of law, legislation, collective bargaining agreements, contracts, plan texts, and governance best practice, and in preparing written communications to inform stakeholders;
  • Monitoring the performance of vendors under contract including quarterly service meetings with each vendor;
  • Preparing and monitoring department budgets and ensuring expenses are managed within budget;
  • Providing direct leadership, mentoring, training and coaching to managers and other department employees; and
  • 10 years of management experience and completion of a leadership program.
