Position Requirements

As the Manager of the Pension and Benefits team, you will be integral in managing the development and administration of corporate benefits and pension plans at ICBC for both union and non-union employees. The role will work with management committee and Trustees to ensure that ICBC's defined benefit pension plans and benefit plans continue their excellence in governance. We are seeking someone with great leadership skills who is highly motivated, independent, well organized, and energetic to join our team. Employing a hybrid working model, this role will be located at our North Vancouver Head Office with work from home flexibility.

This role requires a strong subject matter expert in the Pension and Benefits industry and has a proven record of accomplishment of delivering the right solutions for customers. As the Manager, you will develop and implement key measures and support systems necessary to administer the pension and benefits programs, monitor program effectiveness, and ensure the business unit meets the customer needs and department business targets. You will also oversee special projects, including the design and development of new or improved programs. You will be the key player in negotiations with benefit carriers and service providers to obtain optimum cost for the corporation.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Investigates and resolves escalated pension and benefit issues
  • Provides consultation and advice to management and staff in area of expertise
  • Reviews and negotiates underwriting arrangements with service providers to ensure an optimum return on benefit from expenditures; Provides recommendations for changes to such arrangements
  • Ensures all benefit and pension programs are administered consistently within the terms of the collective agreement, internal policies and applicable legislation
  • Prepares communication and training material for the administration of the plans
  • Quarterly reporting to the management pension committee and Trustees of the pension plan for union employees
  • Lead a team of pension and benefits professionals
Requirements:

  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset; however, we are interested in candidates with a variety of backgrounds and experiences
  • 5 or more years of experience in a Pension and Benefits management role
  • Post-Secondary Degree or College Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Completion of CEBS designation or courses leading to CEBS would be an asset
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts and practices of pension and benefit plan administration, including relevant acts, legislation and guidelines as they pertain to pension and benefit plans;
  • Strong communications skills: verbal, written and presentation skills of diverse groups and size
  • Experience working with senior executives and strong customer service focus with the ability to deliver positive customer experiences
  • Superb presentation skills
  • Strong Microsoft skills, SAP knowledge would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both internally and with external providers, is essential
  • High degree of confidentiality
