Established to support Canadian forestry workers and their families, the IWA–Forest Industry Pension and LTD Plans provide pension and disability benefits and rehabilitation services to members. The plans are jointly trusteed by union and industry appointees.

WHO YOU ARE

You will adjudicate claims for both the IWA-Forest Industry LTD Plan and the IWA-Forest Industry Pension Plan.  This will include, but not limited to:

  • Review claims and determine what medical information is required
  • Assess claims eligibility
  • Contact doctors, psychologist and other health professionals as require
  • Determine eligibility, continuation, and cessation of disability benefits
  • Develop and implement intervention plans as required
  • Calculate overpayments
  • Compose and provide Appeal Summaries as required

The Disability Claims Adjudicator will also recommend rehabilitation of members which will include evaluation medical information to assess member’s work potential and refer for rehabilitation intervention.  This position will also determine if the member should apply for Canada Pension Plan Disability.

Requirements:

YOU HAVE/ARE

  • Bachelor’s degree in related medical or health science with 5 to 7 years of experience with medical adjudication of disability files; or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Ability to listen and work together to accomplish the same goal
  • Knowledge of the forest industry is an asset
  • General knowledge of insurance legislation, related government legislation and legal jurisprudence regarding long term disability claims
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize work effectively to meet deadlines
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • A professional and respectful approach.  Must display courtesy, discretion, and understanding in dealing with confidential matters and member situations
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Proficient in the of use computer software applications including scanning technology
