Join us in person as we hear our panelists discuss these and other pressing topics affecting our economy today and in the months to come. Our panel participants are Catherine Rothrock - Chief Economist, Government of Alberta, Jeffrey Sundquist - President & CEO, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and Angus Watt - Senior Wealth Advisor, National Bank Financial.

PANELISTS

     
 

Catherine Rothrock is the Chief Economist for the Government of Alberta. Her team analyzes economic trends and develops forecasts to support budget and fiscal planning for the government.

Catherine started her career in the energy sector as an analyst in Calgary for Enron, UBS Warburg Energy, and Purvin & Gertz, an oil and gas consulting firm. She brought her experience to Alberta Energy in 2008, where she studied oil markets and developed the oil price forecast. She moved over Alberta Treasury Board and Finance as a manager in the Economics, Demography, and Public Finance branch before serving as the Deputy Chief Economist. Catherine has a keen interest in development which took her to Mozambique for three years, where she worked with local NGOs and learned to speak Portuguese. She also enjoys working on her family’s farm.

Catherine holds a Master's degree in economics from the University of Guelph.

  

Angus Watt is a Senior Wealth Advisor, National Bank Financial, and Founding Partner of the Angus Watt Advisory Group. He holds a degree in Political Science from York University.

Angus and his group manage over $1.4 billion in assets and are specialists in Wealth Management, Portfolio Strategy, Financial Planning, and Individual Insurance. As Central Alberta’s Business Authority, Angus broadcasts over 30 times per week on Global TV and 630 CHED.

Angus was recently honored by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business 2021 Shook as one of Canada’s Top Wealth Advisors. In 2021, the Angus Watt Advisory Group was awarded National Team of the Year by National Bank Financial Wealth Management.

Angus is Chair, South Alberta Light Horse Foundation, co-Chair, Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) Capital Campaign, and Director, CN Community Board.

He is a past recipient of the “Paul Harris Fellow,” awarded by the Rotary Club of Canada. In 2012, Angus received The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Angus received the Community Enrichment Award National Philanthropy Day 2017.

  

Jeffrey Sundquist is the President & CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and the World Trade Centre – Edmonton.

Before taking on this role, he served as Chief Executive Officer of EDC Environmental Group of Companies, the parent investment company of environmental services companies in Canada and the United States treating industrial wastewater and contaminated soil.

He has worked internationally throughout his professional career, conducting business in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and the United States.

Jeffrey serves on the Boards of Edmonton Global (Chair – Finance & Audit Committee), EDC Environmental Group of Companies USA (Denver), BlueWater Resources LLC (Bakersfield) and is an advisor to the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce (London). He is a past Vice Chair of the Board of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, past Chair of the Greater Edmonton Region Chambers of Commerce and former Board Member of the CNPC-Alberta Petroleum Centre (Beijing).

Jesse Little, FCIA, FSA, CFA

Jesse is an actuary in Mercer’s Edmonton office and is the lead actuary for a number of Mercer’s Canadian clients in the private and quasi-public sectors. Jesse is also a member of Mercer’s Financial Strategy Group, whose aim is to help clients achieve their unique risk management objectives, by delivering advice on pension risk assessment, management, and reduction. He also helps his clients integrate the pension solutions within their overall financial strategy.

Jesse is a Fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries and is also a CFA charterholder. He earned a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Statistics, and his MBA, both from the University of Alberta.
