Position Summary:

The Manager, Benefits and Pension is responsible for group benefits, relocation and savings/pension plans for employees across Parkland’s Canadian, US and Caribbean operations. This role ensures that Parkland is providing products that support employees’ total health and financial well-being in a cost-effective and market competitive manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple flexible and traditional group benefit and disability plans for Canadian operations
  • Research and implement plan design improvements to ensure benefit plans are meeting the needs of Parkland’s varied employee groups dispersed across Canada while reducing complexities and costs, where possible
  • Lead annual plan renewals and rate discussions; strive for program delivery efficiency and process optimization
  • Develop a robust health and wellness strategy that supports employees while reducingbenefit, disability and absenteeism costs for the organization
  • Provide consultation and support the development of international group benefits, disability and savings plans for the USA and the Caribbean operations
  • Act as a subject matter expert providing recommendations on plan design and maintenance for programs that support the financial health of employees including pension, employee share purchase plan, and international programs (401(k), etc.)
  • Ensure plans are market competitive and adhere to local laws and regulations
  • Support the development of Parkland’s expatriate total rewards programs, policies, and processes, and lead the day-to-day expatriate employee communications and engagement
  • Review Parkland’s plans and costs in comparison to industry standards and go to market as necessary, workingwith third party consultants, to find vendors that best suit our needs and provide synergies where possible
  • Establish close working relationships with vendors to ensure they are adhering to contractual obligations and performing to our expectations
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to the junior members of the Total Rewards team, and also train and counsel other members of the People and Culture team on benefits and pension related items
  • Participate in the development and ongoing improvement of processes for the Total Rewards team
Requirements:

  • 8-12 years of group benefits, disability and pension management experience (with a preference to those with exposure to domestic, international and expatriate plans and union-represented workforces)
  • 2-3 years of leadership experience an asset
  • Undergraduate degree in related field (Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Commerce, etc.)
  • CEBS or CPHR designations considered an asset
  • Outstanding relationship building capability and a collaborative working style - being a strong team player with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Superior business acumen and strong organizational and planning skills
  • A strong work ethic, high level of enthusiasm and ability to excel in a flexible, fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to changing priorities
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to organize and express ideas clearly
  • Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical manner
