The insolvency and closure of Sears Canada has received widespread attention in the Canadian media, with over 18,000 Sears retirees facing uncertainty regarding their pension payments. The law firm representing the Sears pensioners in current litigation will discuss the history of the case, the legal background, the key arguments by the pensioners, and key takeaways for the pension industry.

The law firm representing Sears pensioners in current litigation will discuss the history of the case and takeaways for the pension and benefits industry                        

Amy Tang is an associate in the Pension and Employee Benefits Group at Koskie Minsky LLP. She advises unions, employees, retirees, and boards of trustees on a variety of pension, benefits, and employment issues. She also has experience in bankruptcy and restructuring matters with an emphasis on assisting employees and retirees of insolvent companies in recovering amounts owed to them, whether for wages, severance pay or post-retirement benefits. Most recently, she has acted as court-appointed representative counsel for employees and retirees in the insolvency proceedings of U.S. Steel Canada, Wabush Mines, and Sears Canada.  She has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario.
