Session Descriptions

The CPBI Ontario London Chapter is back with its annual Spring Pension and Benefits Update!

>> Economic update (9:00am – 10:00am)

The economy is picking up speed. Global GDP growth expectations are rising. Meanwhile, talks of protectionism threaten to reduce global trade and inevitably halt the growth in real GDP. What does it all mean for Canada and Canadian investors? How do we contrast the global economy to our own domestically? Over the last two years we have been hearing about real estate bubbles in Vancouver and Toronto, the impact of low oil prices and the Canadian dollar, the permanent loss of manufacturing jobs, underfunded pension plans… How does it all add up for your firm’s plan and its members?

Speaker: Lewis Powell
Lewis is a consultant at Proteus and has been part of the team since 2011. Lewis’ investment expertise with a background in portfolio management and credit analysis has helped him design and implement investment mix structures for Proteus’ largest clients. Lewis has direct experience as the primary or co-consultant for Proteus’ clients including: defined benefit, defined contribution and jointly trusteed pension plans; endowments and foundations; trust funds; and insurance entities.

Lewis also plays an important role in developing and delivering plan member solutions for Proteus’ clients, including education programs, communication strategies and investment solutions.

Lewis is a published thought leader with articles featured in the Pension and Benefits Monitor Magazine, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, Plans and Trust magazine.

Lewis is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and a member of the Toronto CFA Society. He graduated from Brock University’s Bachelor of Business Administration Honours program in the first class. Prior to joining Proteus, Lewis worked on the private debt/direct investment team of a large, Canadian, insurance firm.

>> Industry spotlight (10:15 – 10:20)

>> Everything You Need to Know About… High-Cost Drug Trends plus the Trillium Drug Program (10:20am – 11:20 am)

Over the past several years, high-cost drugs have been coming to market at a furious rate that’s not going to slow down in the foreseeable future. This session will explore high-cost drug trends and introduce several high-cost drugs that will come on the market soon including their potential impact to drug plans. In addition, we’ll review the upcoming changes to the Trillium Drug Program (TDP). What will these mean for plan sponsors? Likely not as much as you might think. The TDP will be de-mystified at last in this don’t-miss session.

Speaker : Ned Pojskic
Ned Pojskic is the Pharmacy Strategy Leader at Green Shield Canada (GSC). In this role he is responsible for setting GSC’s strategic direction in pharmacy benefits management, including formulary design and management, pricing, and policy. In addition, Ned is responsible for stakeholder relations with both the pharmacy and pharmaceutical industry.

Ned brings a wealth of experience in policy, advocacy, and government relations through his previous role as the Director of Health Policy at the Ontario Pharmacists Association.

Ned holds Masters and PhD degrees from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Toronto. He is currently appointed as an Adjunct Professor (Status) at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy in the University of Toronto.
