BCIT’s Human Resources department is currently seeking a regular, full-time Human Resources Manager, Total Compensation to join their team. This position is responsible for planning, developing, designing and implementing a range of programs and processes related to compensation, benefits and pensions, and human resources analytics and information systems that support the Institute’s strategic goals. Responsibilities include leading the Institute’s human capital and workforce analytics initiatives, assisting managers with job design and evaluation, and overseeing disability management and building relationships with clients throughout the Institute, in collaboration with the VP and other leaders in HR, ensures that business processes and practices are simple, intentional and effective.


  • Responsible for developing and overseeing long-term compensation, benefits and pension, and employee programs aligned with talent attraction, development and retention.
  • Manages the HR Coordinator function by providing direction and guidance on the administration of compensation and benefits actions, human resource policies, procedures, collective agreements and relevant employment agreements.
  • Advises senior managers and the executive on reorganization initiatives that may affect job design, compensation, organizational change, and jurisdiction.
  • Manages the relationship with benefits consultants and vendors to ensure active monitoring of benefits usage, compliance and cost containment while ensuring ‘Employer of Choice’ compensation and benefits practices. In collaboration with other HR managers and staff, reviews annual group benefits reports to make informed decisions about organizational health and wellness and other HR initiatives and programs.
  • Through comprehensive data analysis and historical and current trends, develops, implements, and negotiates policies and procedures to optimize the management of sick leave and disability programs including attendance awareness, proactive return-to-work plans, duty to accommodate issues, best practices and other creative workplace solutions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or equivalent.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation is considered an asset.
  • Eight to ten years of in-depth experience in compensation and benefits management, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Understanding of, and experience working with HR analytics and its application to strategic and operational HR practice.
  • Clear record of leadership and team building skills with experience in a managerial capacity.
  • Demonstrated record of trust and integrity in the use and management of confidential employee information and data
  • Proven analytical skills and experience working with real time data, analysis and intelligence
  • Demonstrated understanding of an integrated total compensation approach to benefits and pensions, salary structures, and employee wellness and development programs
  • Experience leading a large, comprehensive total compensation program in a complex multi-union environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of requirements and classification and compensation practices for the public sector
  • Exceptional organizational skills, recognizes priorities and changing approaches
  • High degree of business acumen with a passion and commitment for operational excellence
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituents, including strong writing and presentation skills.
