The University of Victoria (UVic) is a research intensive university that ranks consistently among top universities overall in national surveys. UVic is a place for dynamic learning and research that provides a rich and supportive learning community for its 20,000 students and approximately 5,000 employees. Widely recognized for excellence in research, teaching and community engagement, UVic provides innovative programs and experiential learning in a diverse and welcoming West Coast environment.

Recognizing that people are our primary strength, the University provides three internally managed and distinct pension plans for approximately 6,300 members with total assets in excess of $1.4B. The opportunity exists for you to bring your expertise in pension administration to a diverse and professionally stimulating set of pension plans: a defined benefit plan mainly for unionized staff, a defined contribution plan for part time employees, and a hybrid plan for faculty, management excluded and other professional staff.  The hybrid and defined contribution plans are governed by a Board of Trustees which has ultimate responsibility for the administration of those plans whereas the defined benefit plan is administered by the University. The Pension Services department of the University has responsibility for the day-to-day management and operations of the plans.

Pension Services is seeking an Associate Director who is a self-driven and organized individual to provide leadership to the member services team in providing superior client service in the effective and efficient administration of the pension plans. This includes calculating benefit entitlements, providing retirement planning information, developing internal administrative policies and procedures, and fulfilling plan regulatory requirements by producing statements and ensuring documentation is complete and reconciled. In this role you will have the opportunity to use your excellent staff leadership, communication and technical skills in order to both effectively manage these important functions and work positively with staff, plan members and colleagues within the University.

If you have demonstrated experience in pension plan operations and staff leadership while working in a team setting, the role of Associate Director might be a great fit for you. Our ideal candidate would have a bachelor’s degree with 8 years of progressive work experience plus 3 years directly related pension management experience, strong staff management skills, a high attention to detail with a solid understanding of systems and processes, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
