Under the direction and leadership of the Manager, Benefits, we are seeking an Advisor, Pension & Benefits to join our Pension & Benefits Centre of Excellence in Calgary, AB. The Advisor, Pension & Benefits is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of ATCO’s pension, benefits and savings plans, and providing analytical support to clients and the team.



- Coordinates the benefits enrollment process with vendors, Global Business Units (GBUs) and Corporate Communications

- Responsible for communications content and benefits newsletters, including development and execution of content and project plan, obtaining multiple levels of review and approval, while abiding by strict deadlines

- Independently resolves employee benefit concerns that have been escalated to the Pension & Benefits COE

- Maintains in depth knowledge of benefit contract provisions for actives and retirees

- Participates in benefit surveys

- Acts as subject matter expert for ATCO’s international benefit plans

- As appropriate, delegates to and reviews work of the P&B Coordinator for accuracy and consistency

- Oversees various pension processes, including reconciliations, audits, actuarial valuations, annual statements, pension adjustments (PAs) and pension adjustment reversals (PARS), in accordance with ATCO’s governance process

- Audits and signs-off on annual statements, pension adjustments and non-routine calculations in accordance with plan provisions and legislative requirements

- Reconciles pension contributions for multiple plans and GBUs, current service and special payments, and adjustments for annual valuations.Reconciles payments and expenses and approves remittance summaries for payment

- Prepares Annual Information Returns, Solvency Information Return, Contribution Planners and any other related forms, for multiple pension plans in different jurisdictions with different legislation.

- Audits data and membership reconciliations for actuarial valuations and independently investigates and resolves any discrepancies

- Works with third party administrators, insurers, consultants, vendors and internal departments to improve administrative processes and/or resolve any issues

- Advises Human Resources Business Partners and Employee Resource Center on pension and benefits matters

- Advises the pension and benefits team on new projects, implementations and initiatives


- Bachelor of Commerce or related degree required

- 5-7 years’ experience in group benefits and pension

- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred

- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail

- In depth knowledge of legislation and government programs with respect to pension and benefits

- Exceptional customer focus with strong professional acumen

- Excellent communication and presentation skills

- Excellent organizational skills and able to juggle priorities and tight deadlines

- Dedicated team player, who demonstrates initiative and independence

- Good understanding of Microsoft Office
