We are currently recruiting for the following position in our Calgary Office:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Total Rewards, this position plays a key role in the design, policy development, financial management and reporting, governance, and communication of Agrium’s global retirement and benefits plans in support of our business strategy. This role requires a strategic thinker, with a consultative approach, who has proven strong communications skills, the ability to influence, bring innovation, and best practices to our Total Rewards programs to ensure Agrium’s effectively attracts, retains, and rewards employees in a global organization.

The Pension & Benefits Manager functions in a dynamic, challenging work environment where new processes, programs, relationships are established to support the delivery of our Total Rewards Programs and in turn meet our corporate goals and objectives.

Exigences:
Specific responsibilities may include the following:

•Lead program design and process development, including facilitating approvals from the Board of Directors, for Agrium’s retirement and benefits programs. This includes leading the strategy, policy activities and resources associated with developing and revising new and existing retirement and benefit programs globally.
•Providing ongoing consultation and subject-matter expertise to HR Business Partners, Leaders and the HR Service Center regarding pension and benefits matters, including related policies, programs, practices and administration.
•Continually monitoring external competitive practices and benchmarks, through independent, research and networking with peers, and bringing forward appropriate recommendations and solutions while ensuring we remain competitive.
•A leading role in the communication of various retirement and benefits programs and practices with high focus on change management.
•Partner in the fiduciary responsibilities of providing prudent management and oversight of Agrium’s global retirement and benefit program assets, liabilities, policies and practices. This includes the administration and continued compliance of plans, communication strategy and education of plan members, and collaboration with Finance and Treasury on the funding, accounting and investment activities.
•Lead the activities and resources (internal and external) associated with the detailed financial analysis, risk management and oversight of Agrium’s global retirement and benefit programs to meet solvency and regulatory requirements.
•Oversee the development of strategy, initiatives, programs and policies regarding health and wellness with focus on prevention, increased productivity and long-term sustainability of benefits programs.
•Consulting on special projects as required, including supporting activities associated with program issues arising from acquisitions, divestitures and internal integration situations. Act as an advisor to the business on such matters.
•Provide strong leadership within Human Resources, with particular emphasis on motivating, developing and growing members of the pension and benefits team.
•Utilizing SAP HR and other sources of information to analyze and report on retirement and benefits matters, as well as pursue opportunities for system/process improvements.
•Supporting the preparation of materials for the Human Resources & Compensation Committee of the Board. This may include participation in the HR&CC meetings.
Qualifications and Experience for this position include:

•Relevant bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience). An actuarial background is preferred.
•Minimum of 10 years experience in leading activities associated with the financing, risk, design, implementation, governance, communication, and administration of employee pension and benefits programs.
•Strong working knowledge of Federal and Provincial pension legislation, employment standards, tax legislation applicable to pension and benefits and government social security programs and policy.
•Strong business acumen with a proven ability to link business goals to total rewards programs and policies.
•Ability to work collaboratively and to cultivate and sustain strong partnerships with internal and external clients at all levels.
•Significant experience in using systems to extract, analyze and report data (experience with SAP HR preferred).
•Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
•Demonstrated experience in influencing others to resolve complex and highly sensitive pension and benefits issues.
•Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure. Proven track record in pension and benefits project management.
•Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong track record of change management.
•Experience in global pension and benefits practices strongly preferred.
•Strong Microsoft Office suite (MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) computer skills. Superior Excel skills are a must.
•Strong working knowledge of total rewards philosophy, practices and policies.
•Able to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
