Senior Benefits Analyst

The Pension and Benefits team at The United Church of Canada (UCC), is seeking a Senior Benefits Analyst on a full time, permanent basis. The Church has a multi-employer pension and group insurance plan, administered by third party providers. This position is located at Bloor and Islington (with subway access).

The purpose of the position is to support consistent, high quality service to plan members by ensuring integrity of benefits data and operational efficiency of service delivery from third party service providers. The Senior Benefits Analyst will report directly to the Manager, Pension and Benefits Administration.


  • Audit benefits data held by third party administrator and other service providers.
  • Work with other UCC staff to ensure data flows between third party administrator and payroll provider meet quality standards and data integrity is maintained.
  • Respond to calls from members and treasurers with questions/concerns relating to the benefit plan, payroll deductions and the level of service provided by the external service providers.
  • Provide resources and clarification on areas related to the administration of the UCC plans, for example using historical information and guidelines based on policy to address specific situations.
  • Support the annual renewal of the group benefit contracts with support from consultants and under the direction of the Manager, Pension and Benefits Administration.
  • Provide support to the Manager, Pension and Benefits Administration, as required.

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent. CEB/S or (equivalent) preferred or significant progress.
  • Five years or more experience in the administration of benefit plans, preferably multi-employer with one of the following:

            - a large national or provincial organization

            - a third party administrator working with a national organization

            - a consulting firm working with a national organization

            - an insurance carrier.

  • Disability management experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of benefit plan design and funding principles together with a good working knowledge of benefits legislation in all provinces.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required for dealing with both internal and external contacts in a professional and supportive manner. Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and customer service.
  • Excellent organizing and prioritizing skills. Ability to analyze, problem solve and make decisions using reasoning and sound judgement.
  • Knowledge of insurance contracts.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Excel and other office products; knowledge of Access or similar is desired.
  • Primarily English but a facility in the French language would be an asset.
