 Human Resources Advisor, Employee Programs & Benefits

The HR Advisor, Employee Programs and Benefits is responsible for three key areas:

1. The development, implementation and maintenance of programs that serve the needs of our employees across Metro Vancouver, primarily in the area of employee health and wellness;

2. Support of strategic initiatives and ongoing analysis and review related to employee benefits, including improvements in plan communication to employees, further integration of our benefit plans with our employee health and wellness programs, and technological and business process improvements;

3. Management of the retirement process for employees, including retirement recognition and the provision of pension information and pension benefit application support.

DUTIES:

As the successful candidate you will:

• Participate in strategic initiatives affecting Benefits/Employee programs and plans, including analysis and developing recommendations for business process improvements, and representing the division or department on cross-functional project teams.

• Ensure that, to the greatest possible extent, programs appeal to a broad spectrum of employees, and encourage all employees to participate.

• Establish program evaluation criteria as part of program design, and carry out evaluations on all employee programs and benefit plans. Incorporate evaluation results in future program design and activities. Maintain evaluation data and program statistics and provide reporting.

• Monitor vendor service issues and escalate as appropriate. Liaise with program vendors to ensure we have the most current product, service and administrative information available, and that publications and intranet data are up-to-date and accurate. Where programs involve and/or benefit community groups or charities, coordinate with these groups as required.

• Manage the retirement program, which includes assisting employees to understand their retirement and pension options and apply for pension, organizing retirement recognition events for those who wish to participate, and liaising with retiree departments as required.

• Develop and implement communication strategies to promote program awareness and participation, and further employee understanding of the programs, services and benefits available to them.

• Lead and facilitate meetings of the MetroFit steering committee, which provides ongoing program oversight, direction and evaluation to the program. Participate on other steering and program committees as required.

• Represent HR on the Employee and Family Assistance Program Steering Committee and act as liaison with the program vendor.

• Liaise with Employee Attendance Support to ensure that emerging health and wellness issues are incorporated into program design and delivery.

This position reports to the HR Systems and Benefits Division Manager within HR. Some redistribution of duties may occur among the Benefits team once a successful candidate is identified.
Requirements:
University degree in Human Resources Management, Business or a related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Progress toward, or completion of a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation would be an asset.

Three to five years of human resources experience in employee benefits and/or employee health and wellness in unionized setting.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and address the needs of a diverse employee population in a variety of work locations and environments.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships across the organization.

Accomplishments to date demonstrate that you are a ‘go-to’ person.

Superior written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to deliver your message effectively to a diverse audience using a variety of media and engage the audience’s interest.

A creative and engaging individual who can bring a sense of play and fun to serious and important work.

Demonstrated project management experience.

Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
