 Regional Director, Client Relationships

Role Summary

Reporting to the AVP, Client Relationships for Group Retirement Services, the Regional Director Client Relationships will have overall accountability for client satisfaction, client loyalty, client retention and financial performance for National and Corporate account clients in Western Canada. The Regional Director will lead a team of experienced National and Corporate account Client Relationship Executives (CREs) located in Vancouver and Calgary who each manage a portfolio of group retirement services clients including DC pension, savings and stock plans. This position will also provide leadership for cross selling of products and services that complement the plan sponsors portfolio. The Regional Director will be a member of our national client relationship management team and will be expected to contribute to broader business objectives by participating in various projects with a national and regional business impact for plan sponsors, consultants and plan advisors. The Regional Director will establish and develop relationships with key clients, advisors and consultants.

Main Accountabilities:

o Provide leadership to your teams so that they can achieve their business objectives; coach and guide your team members in areas relating to effective client relationship management and influencing clients and change management; provide business planning direction for your team members so annual objectives can be achieved;
o Through participation on a national client relationship management team, establish business unit objectives for client and advisor satisfaction, client retention and overall financial performance for clients; work with the CREs to deliver required business results in these core areas
o Lead team in identifying client and advisor satisfaction trends, challenges, risks and develop action plans with all key management groups including: Client Service, Marketing, Investment and Education Services in support of your teams objectives
o Lead, participate and implement divisional and cross divisional projects initiatives, representing both a national and regional focus. This would include managing change and enhancing the desired culture and climate for plan sponsors while balancing the internal needs of Sun Life Financial
o Build and enhance relationships within the organization to support your teams, enabling them to implement client and divisional strategies including the cross selling of new products and services
o Accountable for the overall client experience including profitability and retention for your teams portfolio of accounts
o Contribute to building the Sun Life Financial brand and supporting our overall client relationship and marketing plan by participating in industry activities, and by active participation in relevant professional and industry associations (eg, ACPM, CPBI, CEBs)
o Develop, maintain and share perspectives on the competitive landscape as they relate to client experience strategies and product/service strategies
Requirements:
o Proven record in client relationship management with a minimum 5 years of working with large pension and group savings clients or equivalent experience within a Human Resources group of a large organization
o Demonstrated leadership skills to coach and develop members of a team
o Proven knowledge of pension industry with minimum 7 - 10 years experience, with an emphasis on record keeping & employee education services
o Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills
o Demonstrated strong problem solving skills with the ability to quickly and effectively resolve client concerns as they arise
o Strong customer focus
o Highly motivated, self started with strong business acumen and negotiation skills
o Broad knowledge of the services provided by record keeping organizations
o Extensive knowledge of the legislation governing retirement savings programs at both the federal and provincial levels as well as a solid understanding of emerging regulatory trends and the implications for clients
o Outstanding presentation skills
o Strong influencing skills
o Strong negotiation skills
o Superior organizational skills and the ability to follow through

Assets

Professional designation associated with group retirement services or investment industry an asset (eg, CEBS, RPS, IFIC or CSC)

Unique Requirements

The successful candidate must be willing to travel occasionally

The successful candidate can be located in Calgary or Vancouver.
