Alberta Pensions Services Corporation (APS) is a dynamic place to work and grow. APS is recruiting for a Plan Board Actuary.

Reporting to the Director, Plan Board Secretariat, the Plan Board Actuary, is the actuarial expert responsible to provide common actuarial support, research, education. This individual advises the plan boards that receive secretariat services from Alberta Pension Services Corporation (APS) and the APS staff members that support the boards. The Plan Board Actuary is responsible to augment and support (rather than replace) the plan specific actuarial programs and services that are currently in place. This recognizes that although there are common actuarial issues that can be efficiently managed through a common platform, there are also unique plan-specific issues that are best managed through plan-specific actuarial programs and services.
Requirements:
Qualifications:

• University Degree and 10 years directly related experience; and
• Member of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Skills & Abilities:

• Broad and deep understanding of all aspects of actuarial science, pension plan design, funding, pension policy and issues affecting pension plans in Canada and Alberta;
• Broad and deep understanding of board governance and how to work with and get the most of boards that are composed of volunteer members, some who have not had previous investment experience;
• Broad and deep understanding of public sector pension plans and their unique issues including asset liability matching, pension plan maturity, pension regulation, and other long term issues affecting pension plans;
• Credibility with peers and colleagues in Alberta and Canada;
• Ability to make professional presentations, to educate and explain complex issues;
• Superior technical and analytical skills and knowledge relating to actuarial science; and
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
