The Teamsters Local 213 Members Benefit Plans administration office provides the day-to-day administration services for 3 multi-employer benefit plans (2 health and welfare, 1 pension) for union members.  We are seeking an individual for the following position:

Position:         Benefits Administrator/Supervisor 

Category:       Permanent, Full-Time (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday), Job Classification Category 3
(as per collective agreement with MoveUP and Teamsters Local 213 Members Benefit Plans)

Duties Include but are not limited to:         

Answering enquiries and communicating with members, beneficiaries, employers, union representatives, trustees, plan service providers, etc. by phone, in writing, in person.

Health and welfare benefits administration, which includes processing related to:

Member life insurance/AD&D claims, monthly carrier reports for insured premium payments, monthly disability claims reports, annual health & welfare plan data/census data;
Back-up for Member enrolments, reinstatements, terminations, self-payments;
Trustee Meeting Agenda reports; registrations and tracking related to Trustee educational sessions.

Pension benefit administration which includes processing related to:

Back-up for Pension benefit application and payment processing - entitlements on retirement, death, termination of membership, pension disability credits, in accordance with Plan provisions, government legislation requirements as required. 

Supervisory duties:

Oversee staff workload including allocation of work and priorities, staff observance of work hours/breaks/time off, trouble-shooting problems, month-end procedures, coordinate and oversee year-end processes inclusive of tax slips production, annual member mailings; member eligibility verification authorizations; working with staff and IT on administration software changes, record retention.

Provide back-up for other administration positions in the office, and for payroll and invoice/accounts payable processing as necessary; performs other assigned duties related to the provision of supervision, benefits administration, trustee meetings.


Intermediate computer proficiency incl. MS Office; Word and Excel and ability to learn new applications
Accurate key boarding skills, minimum 60 wpm
Strong mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills
Superior attention to details
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to multi-task effectively and work closely with others in a team environment and independently, a self-starter
Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure of time deadlines
High School Diploma
3-5 years relevant group benefits and pension plan administration experience; experience with union multi-employer plans and hour banks is an asset
IFEBP CEBS or GPA/RPA designation or equivalent (or working towards) would be considered an asset
