Offering a health and benefit program to employees as a small or mid-size company can be challenging. To attract and keep talent, a small to mid-size employer must deal with limited ressources and risks to offer a strategic health and benefit plan that can fit employees' needs. So how does one get the most out of their plan design?


Course Description

Two speakers collaborate in this half–day session to discuss the key aspects in designing health and benefit programs for small to mid-size Employers. 

The speakers will review best practices in creating and designing health and benefits programs and will discuss key aspects pertaining to small and mid-size companies. Participants will learn to identify opportunities, use creative solutions and implement changes into their plan design. Opportunities will be available for questions and discussion.

This session will provide particularly useful information for small to mid-size employers, HR leaders, managers, supervisors and benefit consultants.

Vanessa La Fortune

Vanessa La Fortune joined Mercer's Health & Benefits practice in Vancouver in the summer of 2012 and brings over 20 years' experience in Health & Benefits. Vanessa's experience includes providing strategic and day-to-day consulting services to a wide variety of local, national and international clients, including single and multi-employer, union, non-union and trust plans on complex multi-employer, flexible and traditional Canadian benefit plans. Vanessa is passionate about providing exceptional service and value to her clients.

Vanessa is Chair on Council of Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute (CPBI) Pacific Region; Chair, CPBI Roundtable Committee; as well as a member of the CPBI Continuing Education Committee, providing education to members and non-members of CPBI on pension and benefits; and is an occasional speaker at various industry events.



Peter W. Moffat     
Benefits Consultant

Peter is a Benefits Consultant with TRG Group Benefits & Pensions Inc. Peter helps companies design, implement and manage their benefits and retirement programs. He has over two decades in the group benefits industry, including a decade in absence management. His two areas of focus in the benefits industry are drug management and disability management.


Peter holds his Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation, serves on a number of Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute (CPBI) committees, and is a member of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists (ISCEBS).
