Employee and Family Assistance Programs

This session will explore the genesis of EFAP plans and where they are today, the broad array of services under this umbrella and current trends.  By understanding how an EFAP dovetails with the continuum of employee health provides context for how organizations can strategically leverage their EFAP to support their targeted outcomes and to maximize their return on investment.

Learn about one plan sponsor's experience with the trends, usage, philosophy and promotion of its EFAP provider and its "ROI" return on investment.

Marion Yoshida is Senior Director, National Account Management with Morneau Shepell.  Marion’s passion lies in the area of employee well-being within the context of the workplace to which she brings vast experience from over twenty-four (24) years in the EFAP industry. With a Bachelor of Science degree (Psychology major) from the University of Toronto along with a Masters of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, Marion spent her first five (5) years in the field as an EFAP counsellor before transitioning into Account Management where she has held senior leadership roles for the past fourteen (14) years. The Ontario Retirement Pension Plan:
What to expect and what to do about it

The Ontario Government has passed Bill 56: An act to require the establishment of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan.  Joe Nunes will speak about the purpose of the program and its design as well as open questions about its current design.  Joe will also share his views regarding the effectiveness of this program and what he views as necessary steps that the Ontario Government needs to take to make the program successful.

Joe F. Nunes is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a graduate of the Math program at the University of Waterloo.  Upon graduation, Joe joined Mercer in Toronto where he worked for seven years before spending the next three years in a small insurance brokerage and consulting firm in Scarborough.  In 1998 Joe co-founded Actuarial Solutions Inc. and has been its President since that time.

For his entire career, Joe has worked in the area of pensions, gaining experience along the way in funding, accounting, plan design, merger and acquisition, and defined contribution programs. Joe also serves the legal community as an expert witness in matters relating to pension plans and provides independent advice to plan sponsors, administrators and membership groups when the incumbent actuary is in a position of conflict.

Joe is most likely to be found sharing his thoughts in writing, and you may have heard his voice through industry publications or his Blog on his company website.
